IPFW starting Oliver Kook, Ben Duckworth, Darryl Shank, Matt Pliske and freshmen Dan Mader, Phil Peterson and Chris Brigson.
11-10 first set on an Oliver Kook ace.
Fast start for IPFW with the many freshmen on the court. Pretty impressive against a 3-1 Loyola team that is coming off a win over George Mason, who beat IPFW 3-0.
Loyola timeout with IPFW leading 16-15.
Kook takes advantage of free ball with kill, IPFW 18-16
IPFW first to 20 with Duckworth kill, IPFW 20-17
Huge Brigson block, IPFW 23-21
Game note: Freshman JJ Meyer not in uniform tonight after playing well last week on the road.
Loyola takes 26-24 lead on big three man block.
Game point Loyola on Kook attack error. 26-29 Loyola
Mike Bunting kill gives Loyola game one, 30-27.
IPFW played great and surprising making Loyola give up a lot of free balls. Serious energy on the Mastodon sideline in game one. A lot of potential for future games tonight if IPFW can get a lead AND sustain it.
GAME 2: Shank opens with a hit off the Loyola block. 1-0 IPFW
Just noticed that Meyer has a strong brace on his right (hitting) hand. That doesn't spell good things.
Peterson is struggling in the back row, gives up two early points in this game, IPFW trailing 4-7.
Shank and Kook showing a lot of teamwork and enthusiasm on a block, Loyola 11-9.
IPFW is hitting all wrong and Coach Arnie Ball makes a setter sub down 17-10, bringing in usual starter Corey Stewart to replace Mader.
Impressive cross court pass right out by Stewart to a wide open Peterson, wh hits the seam perfectly. Loyola 18-12.
Ball is trying anything with two liberos now in the back row as Morici replaces Peterson. Also Nathaniel Berg comes in for Brigson. IPFW needing some defense and hopefully the Morici/Pliske combo can do it. Loyola 24-16.
Loyola dominates in game two to take the 2-0 lead, 30-22.
Junior Kris Berzins was strong for Loyola in game two. IPFW looked very very different teams in each of the two games. They will need some kind of miracle help to get back into this.
GAME 3: Mader back in to set as Duckworth gets IPFW's first point. 1-1
Game of back and forth, one-point Ramble advantages and ties seems neverending. Loyola 9-8.
Loyola takes first two point lead, 12-10, on Mike Morice (not Morici) kill. IPFW then comes back, using a double hit by Loyola to pull back within one.
Duckworth kill keeping IPFW alive. Loyola 15-13.
Little old school service clapping doesn't help. But the Rambles following it up with a service error does. Loyola 18-17
IPFW timeout after Loyola score on back-to-back plays to push the lead to 22-19. The Mastodons need a big run, and I think that requires putting Darryl Shank back in this game.
Yes Shank, Yes rally. Kook and Duckworth tie it at 24 with a block, forcing a Loyola timeout.
Two straight mental positioning errors have enraged Coach Ball and given Loyola control back, 26-24.
Shank kill and Duckworth ace make it a 27-26 IPFW lead and the place is electric. Timeout Ramblers.
Shank with another kill and then yes, one more and its game point IPFW, 29-27.
Shank serves to success, IPFW takes game three 30-27. Very identical to game one, just with the two teams switching place. IPFW still trails 2-1 but has all kinds of dangerous momentum.
GAME 4: Duckworth with IPFW's fist kill of the game, trying to counter Loyola's fast start. 3-2 Loyola.
Peterson gets a lucky roll on a kill. Loyola 6-5.
Shank/Kook/Duckworth. Is there a better block? Tied at nine.
Mastodons jus can't get over the hump. 14-13 Loyola on Peterson service error.
More back and forth ends on Shank ace. 17-16 IPFW.
Kook ace, Berg block get IPFW to 20 first, 20-17. But they can't afford to do now what they did in game one and fade.
IPFW hits 25 on a Rambler service error. IPFW 25-22.
Game point IPFW on Berg/Duckworth block.
A couple failed game points and IPFW timeout later and the Mastodons finally put it away on a Peterson kill!
30-28 in game four takes us forward. And here we go, first to 15 wins a critically important start in MIVA play.
GAME 5: Loyola wins the coin toss, gets first serve and first point.
Coach Ball takes a timeout after a questionable call gives Loyola a 5-3 lead.
IPFW's defense is letting Loyola's hitting dictate too much of this game. Loyola 8-5.
Rambler timeout after Berg block makes it interesting again. Loyola 8-7.
We have a shootout. 10-10.
Match point for IPFW 14-12 on a hitting error by Loyola. Amazing turnaround.
Wow, very questioanable call to end it, but IPFW takes it 15-12 on Kook kill.
IPFW improves to 4-1 as Loyola fals for the first time.

IPFW Men vs. IUPUI
IPFW and IUPUI are both in the cusp of a conference tournament spot and each need a win...and actually, can't afford to lose. IPFW (8-11 overall) is 3-5 in conference after a win Thursday.IUPUI (9-10) fell to Oakland on the same day to fall to 2-6 in the Summit.
10-0 run for IUPUI to start the game, thanks to a pair of Gary Patterson threes. Could be a long afternoon at Gates.
15:26- Patterson is 3-for-3 from deep and IUPUI is playing with purpose. 18-3 IUPUI
13:20- Jakari Johnson steal and fast break dunk gets the crowd pumped but doesn't make a dent. 21-8 IUPUI
9:25- Nice move up the middle and dunk from Deilvez Yearby.
7:11- Patterson is on fire from deep.12 points for him on 4-of-5 shooting from deep. How the Dons are backing off him at all on defense is baffling. 34-13 IUPUI
3:35- John Peckinpaugh throws the ball away. A lot of costly ball handling errors by IPFW with IUPUI so explosive on offense. 43-22 IUPUI
34.1- Patterson is now having his way on defense, picking everyone's pocket.
HALFTIME- 49-25 Jaguar lead after a pathetic first half from IPFW shooting and on defense. Patterson is 6-for-9 from deep with 18 points leading IUPUI. Robert Glenn has 13 and is overpowering inside, including three dunks. IPFW's offense is silent, but led by Zach Plackemeier's seven and six each from Deilvez Yearby and Ben Botts. David Carson has just two points. IPFW could use 6'11" Trey McCorkle off the bench right about now.
19:24- IPFW starts the second half with a third chance basket from Carson after rebounds by he and Trey McCorkle (god, I'm good).
16:36- Nick Daniels sandwiches a pair of baskets outside of a Plackemeier three. Daniels will shoot his and-one free throw after the IUPUI timeout. 56-34 IUPUI
15:39- The Mastodons need to look inside at Carson and McCorkle if they have any chance of coming back. Sadly I just forsee them shooting themselves furthur out of it. 58-34 IUPUI
14:17- Questionable holding call takes Carson out of the game with four fouls.
11:48- IPFW taking another look with junior Aaron Richie in the post, we'll see if he has any more luck. Pretty stagnant game all around right now. 65-40 IUPUI
7:40- Game is pretty even right now other than IUPUI's first half cushion. Although Jag coach Ron Hunter is anything but pleased with guard Adrian Moss. How can you be upset with someone who looks like Stephen Curry when your up 25? 74-49 IUPUI
3:43- Plenty of answers for IPFW in the form of Ben Botts and Nick Daniels but they still can't seem to chip away at the already established Jaguar lead.
IUPUI just content running the clock out at this point.
FINAL- 84-57 IUPUI. Gary Patterson and Robert Glenn each hit for 20 for the Jags. Leroy Nobles had 15 and Jon Avery scored 10. The team emptied their bench, which is never a good sign if you are the opponent. Even freshman Ryan McDaniel, the only guy without a name on his jersey played. Alex Young added seven. Ben Botts hit three three-pointers to lead IPFW with 16 points. Zach Plackmeier and Nick Daniels each had 10 (all of Daniels were in the second half). Deilvez Yearby did not play in the second half, but had six in the first while leading scorer David Carson was held to just four. Just a bad defensive night for the Mastodons.

IPFW Women vs. IUPUI
Important conference game for the Mastodon women (2-16, 1-6), who have not won since December 8 and need some wins to get into the Summit League tournament. Today they play IUPUI (9-9, 4-3) who is coming off back-to-back conference wins.
6'5" Jaguar post Julia Whitted looks like she will be a big difference, already clearing out the middle 3 minutes in.
15:41 media timeout- IPFW defense starting to look strong with back to back takeaways. But, IUPUI strong too as they've forced the shot clock down under 10 on IPFW three times. 4-2 IUPUI
11:03- IUPUI still strong penetrating up the middle but IPFW answering back on three's from Sarah Haluska and Jordan Zuppe. 9-9
9:32- Brittany Ransom opens up a three point lead for IUPUI from deep, wide open.
6:30- IUPUI opens it up to 21-15 on a Whitted putback off her own miss. The post has four points and a half dozen rebounds thus far and is really the difference maker in not allowing IPFW inside the arc much at all.
3:49- Anne Boese is on the bench for IPFW with two fouls which hurts inside just a little more. With about 4:40 to play, the Dons showed good ball movement to get Courtney Reed an open three in the corner. 23-20 IUPUI
54.8- Tina Moen is giving IPFW some help with back to back baskets and forcing Whitted into a costly offensive foul. 25-24 IUPUI
HALFTIME- 25-24 IUPUI lead with a variety of scorers on each end. Brittany Ransom leads IUPUI and all scorers with 7 while Tina Moen and Chelsey Jackson each have 6 for IPFW. The Mastodons are doing a good job of taking the ball away but the adjustments to IUPUI in the post are touch and go. Not sure if IPFW can afford to live and die by the three in the 2nd half but Moen has been giving them a good mid-range option. IPFW's Anne Boese and IUPUI's Jernisha Cann each with two fouls.
16:58 2nd Half- IUPUI comes out hot with a pair of threes from sophomore Nicole James who didn't score in the opening half. 35-28 IUPUI
15:23- Mental errors and turnovers are costly as IUPUI opens it up more on a Brittany Ransom three. 40-28 IUPUI
14:58- Haluska gets triple teamed but IPFW fails to get the ball to an open player.
11:50- Moen gets a much needed jump ball. IUPUI is just spreading it out too much for IPFW right now. 46-32 IUPUI
Boese's first points finally come on a three with 11:05 left.
7:38- Chelsey Jackson finally ends her scoring drought with a free throw at 8:58 but IUPUI is still getting too many open looks. Only good news for the Mastodons right now is that Jernisha Cann just picked up her fourth foul for IUPUI. 53-38 IUPUI
3:37- Moen fouls out but I think its already a lost cause. IPFW is still fighting hard but the Jaguars are taking their defense apart and getting way too easy looks. The Jags have two players with 10 points and two others with nine at this point. 59-46 IUPUI
2:14- Another Boese three pulls IPFW within nine.
1:25- Great dish from Eva Ivanova to Reed for an and-1.
37.8- Zuppe three makes it a five point game.
IUPUI wraps this one up with a bunch of Brykeesha Tate free throws for the 70-61 final. Good effort by the Dons buts IUPUI was just too much. Tate led all scorers with 15. IUPUI had three others in double-digits with Nicole James (12), Janna Eichelberger (10) and Brittany Ransom (10). Jernisha Cann added eight for the Jags, who had nine different scorers.
IPFW had eight ladies score, led by Anne Boese's 11, all coming in the final 11 minutes. Sarah Haluslka, Jordan Zuppe and Tina Moen each added 10 and Courtney Reed had nine. IPFW hit eight threes in the loss.
