IPFW Women vs. IUPUI

Important conference game for the Mastodon women (2-16, 1-6), who have not won since December 8 and need some wins to get into the Summit League tournament. Today they play IUPUI (9-9, 4-3) who is coming off back-to-back conference wins.

6'5" Jaguar post Julia Whitted looks like she will be a big difference, already clearing out the middle 3 minutes in.

15:41 media timeout- IPFW defense starting to look strong with back to back takeaways. But, IUPUI strong too as they've forced the shot clock down under 10 on IPFW three times. 4-2 IUPUI

11:03- IUPUI still strong penetrating up the middle but IPFW answering back on three's from Sarah Haluska and Jordan Zuppe. 9-9

9:32- Brittany Ransom opens up a three point lead for IUPUI from deep, wide open.

6:30- IUPUI opens it up to 21-15 on a Whitted putback off her own miss. The post has four points and a half dozen rebounds thus far and is really the difference maker in not allowing IPFW inside the arc much at all.

3:49- Anne Boese is on the bench for IPFW with two fouls which hurts inside just a little more. With about 4:40 to play, the Dons showed good ball movement to get Courtney Reed an open three in the corner. 23-20 IUPUI

54.8- Tina Moen is giving IPFW some help with back to back baskets and forcing Whitted into a costly offensive foul. 25-24 IUPUI

HALFTIME- 25-24 IUPUI lead with a variety of scorers on each end. Brittany Ransom leads IUPUI and all scorers with 7 while Tina Moen and Chelsey Jackson each have 6 for IPFW. The Mastodons are doing a good job of taking the ball away but the adjustments to IUPUI in the post are touch and go. Not sure if IPFW can afford to live and die by the three in the 2nd half but Moen has been giving them a good mid-range option. IPFW's Anne Boese and IUPUI's Jernisha Cann each with two fouls.

16:58 2nd Half- IUPUI comes out hot with a pair of threes from sophomore Nicole James who didn't score in the opening half. 35-28 IUPUI

15:23- Mental errors and turnovers are costly as IUPUI opens it up more on a Brittany Ransom three. 40-28 IUPUI

14:58- Haluska gets triple teamed but IPFW fails to get the ball to an open player.

11:50- Moen gets a much needed jump ball. IUPUI is just spreading it out too much for IPFW right now. 46-32 IUPUI

Boese's first points finally come on a three with 11:05 left.

7:38- Chelsey Jackson finally ends her scoring drought with a free throw at 8:58 but IUPUI is still getting too many open looks. Only good news for the Mastodons right now is that Jernisha Cann just picked up her fourth foul for IUPUI. 53-38 IUPUI

3:37- Moen fouls out but I think its already a lost cause. IPFW is still fighting hard but the Jaguars are taking their defense apart and getting way too easy looks. The Jags have two players with 10 points and two others with nine at this point. 59-46 IUPUI

2:14- Another Boese three pulls IPFW within nine.

1:25- Great dish from Eva Ivanova to Reed for an and-1.

37.8- Zuppe three makes it a five point game.

IUPUI wraps this one up with a bunch of Brykeesha Tate free throws for the 70-61 final. Good effort by the Dons buts IUPUI was just too much. Tate led all scorers with 15. IUPUI had three others in double-digits with Nicole James (12), Janna Eichelberger (10) and Brittany Ransom (10). Jernisha Cann added eight for the Jags, who had nine different scorers.

IPFW had eight ladies score, led by Anne Boese's 11, all coming in the final 11 minutes. Sarah Haluslka, Jordan Zuppe and Tina Moen each added 10 and Courtney Reed had nine. IPFW hit eight threes in the loss.
