IPFW Men vs. IUPUI

IPFW and IUPUI are both in the cusp of a conference tournament spot and each need a win...and actually, can't afford to lose. IPFW (8-11 overall) is 3-5 in conference after a win Thursday.IUPUI (9-10) fell to Oakland on the same day to fall to 2-6 in the Summit.

10-0 run for IUPUI to start the game, thanks to a pair of Gary Patterson threes. Could be a long afternoon at Gates.

15:26- Patterson is 3-for-3 from deep and IUPUI is playing with purpose. 18-3 IUPUI

13:20- Jakari Johnson steal and fast break dunk gets the crowd pumped but doesn't make a dent. 21-8 IUPUI

9:25- Nice move up the middle and dunk from Deilvez Yearby.

7:11- Patterson is on fire from deep.12 points for him on 4-of-5 shooting from deep. How the Dons are backing off him at all on defense is baffling. 34-13 IUPUI

3:35- John Peckinpaugh throws the ball away. A lot of costly ball handling errors by IPFW with IUPUI so explosive on offense. 43-22 IUPUI

34.1- Patterson is now having his way on defense, picking everyone's pocket.

HALFTIME- 49-25 Jaguar lead after a pathetic first half from IPFW shooting and on defense. Patterson is 6-for-9 from deep with 18 points leading IUPUI. Robert Glenn has 13 and is overpowering inside, including three dunks. IPFW's offense is silent, but led by Zach Plackemeier's seven and six each from Deilvez Yearby and Ben Botts. David Carson has just two points. IPFW could use 6'11" Trey McCorkle off the bench right about now.

19:24- IPFW starts the second half with a third chance basket from Carson after rebounds by he and Trey McCorkle (god, I'm good).

16:36- Nick Daniels sandwiches a pair of baskets outside of a Plackemeier three. Daniels will shoot his and-one free throw after the IUPUI timeout. 56-34 IUPUI

15:39- The Mastodons need to look inside at Carson and McCorkle if they have any chance of coming back. Sadly I just forsee them shooting themselves furthur out of it. 58-34 IUPUI

14:17- Questionable holding call takes Carson out of the game with four fouls.

11:48- IPFW taking another look with junior Aaron Richie in the post, we'll see if he has any more luck. Pretty stagnant game all around right now. 65-40 IUPUI

7:40- Game is pretty even right now other than IUPUI's first half cushion. Although Jag coach Ron Hunter is anything but pleased with guard Adrian Moss. How can you be upset with someone who looks like Stephen Curry when your up 25? 74-49 IUPUI

3:43- Plenty of answers for IPFW in the form of Ben Botts and Nick Daniels but they still can't seem to chip away at the already established Jaguar lead.

IUPUI just content running the clock out at this point.

FINAL- 84-57 IUPUI. Gary Patterson and Robert Glenn each hit for 20 for the Jags. Leroy Nobles had 15 and Jon Avery scored 10. The team emptied their bench, which is never a good sign if you are the opponent. Even freshman Ryan McDaniel, the only guy without a name on his jersey played. Alex Young added seven. Ben Botts hit three three-pointers to lead IPFW with 16 points. Zach Plackmeier and Nick Daniels each had 10 (all of Daniels were in the second half). Deilvez Yearby did not play in the second half, but had six in the first while leading scorer David Carson was held to just four. Just a bad defensive night for the Mastodons.
